Ingredients for 6 people

  • 1 bottle (750ml) red wine ​
  • 75g caster sugar ​
  • 2 cinnamon sticks ​
  • 1 orange, sliced ​
  • 6 whole cloves ​
  • 1 star anise ​
  • 1 vanilla pod, split ​
  • 1 lemon, sliced ​
  • 2 bay leaves ​
  • 2 tbs De Nigris Gold Label Balsamic Vinegar

For the recipe

Pour the red wine into a large saucepan. Add the caster sugar and stir until dissolved, then add the cinnamon sticks, orange slices, cloves, star anise, vanilla pod, lemon slices, and bay leaves. Heat the mixture gently on a low heat, stirring occasionally for about 15 minutes, making sure not to let it boil. 

Just before serving, stir in the De Nigris Gold Label Balsamic Vinegar, taste, and just the sweetness by adding more sugar if desired. Strain the mulled wine into heatproof glasses or mugs, discarding the spices and fruit. 

Serve immediately.

Tip: If desired, you can garnish each glass with a slice of orange and a cinnamon stick.
